Challenge #7- A picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you
One of the many reasons I have not been blogging lately is because I am currently serving with Americorps. Americorps is a national service organization. It places volunteers ages 17-24 at different nonprofit organizations throughout the year.
I am currently serving my Americorps term for the summer at Roseland, which is a housing community in North Dallas. The Roseland community has a very unique set up. It is semi gated with a community center, daycare, library, after school acadmey, computer lab and center for teens at the front. All of the things previous listed are either free or cost between $5 to $10 to use for an entire year. I, along with about 18 other Americorps members, work in one of the these areas. My focus is the library.
Serving at Roseland has truely changed my life. I always knew I wanted a career where I was helping people but I was unsure of what age range I wanted to focus on. However, I have realized I have a love for young children. Programs like the one at Roseland give children the opporunity to remain engaged all year long making it easier for them to retain information they learn throughout the school year.
Oh...btw...the age for Americorps is 17+ ...there is no maximum age. So, if any of your friends...or any people reading this blog...would like to apply, they can contact me! :) (gotta keep recruiting great people! ;-) )
I am a senior in college who has lived in the dorms all four years. After a 3 1/2 year relationship, I have been single for seven months. Before I leave college, I hope on having life figured out...kinda.
So glad you were with us this summer!!
